Offcuts of maple and walnut, their live edges kept, meet a field of deep blue epoxy shot through with copper foil — grain, night, and ember in one turning. Laura joined what the shop had set aside and turned it into her most intricate piece yet, finishing it in Danish oil, friction polish, and paste wax. Every facet reads a little different: here a knot, there a copper glint, the blue running to the rim like water finding its level.
It was made to hold things. It will spend its life being looked at instead.
