The forest at night, one cone of it.

Sections of a real pinecone are cast in blue-black resin, their golden scales opening across the barrel where the lathe found them. Laura cast the blank, turned it, and polished the resin until the cone seems lit from behind — the campfire side of the tree line.

Every scale is a seed's front door, permanently ajar. The forest kept a copy.
