Curly mango — warm, shimmering, unexpectedly figured — runs down the barrel and meets a band of blue resin at the base, cast there by Laura when she made the hybrid blank. The joint between them is the whole story: land, then sea, no argument.

The figure moves like heat over sand; the blue does not move at all. High tide is permanent.
